- What should I wear?
- Choose outfits that make you feel confident and comfortable. Soft, neutral tones photograph beautifully. Avoid large logos or busy patterns. I send a detailed style guide after booking to help you plan the perfect look.
- Where do sessions take place?
- I photograph throughout the Triangle — Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, Cary, Apex, Wake Forest — at spots like Pullen Park, JC Raulston Arboretum, Dorothea Dix Park, Bass Lake Park, Duke Gardens, Umstead State Park, and Falls Lake. I'm happy to suggest a location or meet you somewhere meaningful to your story.
- How many photos will I receive?
- Mini Sessions include 10 beautifully edited digitals. Deluxe Sessions include 40+ edited images. Every photo is individually retouched and delivered in high resolution with full printing rights.
- Can I bring my pet?
- Absolutely! Pets are family too. Just let me know ahead of time so we can plan for the best experience — including treats and breaks.
- What are the best photo locations in Raleigh?
- Some favorites: Pullen Park, JC Raulston Arboretum, Dorothea Dix Park, Bass Lake Park in Holly Springs, and downtown Raleigh for an urban feel. For a more natural setting, Umstead State Park and Falls Lake are beautiful. We should also be mindful that some parks require a permit for paid photography — we can discuss the specifics during booking. I'm happy to recommend a spot that matches your vision.
- When is the best time of year for family photos in NC?
- North Carolina gives you four usable seasons, but late spring (April–May) and fall (October–early November) tend to be magical — golden light, mild temperatures, and gorgeous natural backdrops. Winter sessions in December and January are quietly beautiful if you don't mind the chill. Summer sessions work beautifully at sunrise or the last hour before sunset to avoid the heat and harsh light.
- What should my family wear for photos?
- Coordinate, don't match. Pick a cohesive color palette (soft neutrals, warm earth tones, or dusty blues photograph beautifully) and let each family member wear something within it. Avoid large logos, bright neon, and heavy patterns that distract from faces. Bring layers if the weather's unpredictable. Once you book, you'll receive a full wardrobe guide with examples.
- Do you photograph maternity and newborn sessions?
- Yes. Maternity portraits are best photographed between 28 and 34 weeks — you have a beautiful bump and are usually still comfortable on your feet. Sessions typically take place outdoors or at home, and your partner and older children are welcome to join. I also offer in-hospital newborn photography at local area hospitals, capturing those first precious hours when your baby arrives.
- Do you travel for family sessions?
- Of course. I photograph throughout the Triangle at no extra charge within 30 miles of Raleigh. For locations farther out — the NC coast, mountains, or anywhere meaningful to your family — a travel fee applies and is discussed during booking.
- Can we do photos at our home?
- Absolutely — in-home lifestyle sessions are some of my favorites. They photograph beautifully in the morning with natural window light, and they capture a specific season of your family that's easy to forget: the toys, the chaos, the way the light hits the kitchen in the afternoon. We'll walk through your home together (in person or by photo) to find the best spots.
